Description

Locates, and marks the location of subsurface utilities in order to prevent accidental damage or disruption of service. Locate and mark existing underground infrastructure including: natural gas, water, wastewater lines, water, storm water collection system, streetlights, and traffic signals.

Duties
  • Responsible for using locating equipment and hand tools
  • Responsible for locating underground facility lines often digging to expose them
  • Create reports of where underground utilities are located
Working Conditions
  • Work in the field determining the location of utilities before construction begins
  • Spend sometime in an office setting to complete records of where utilities are located
Essential Skills
  • Knowledge of basic construction and maintenance materials
  • Able to follow written and oral instructions, understanding blueprints, working in a crew
  • Perform simple mathematical calculations
  • Ability to solve problems
Education
  • Some experience as a general construction worker is helpful
  • Completion of high school
  • On the job training is provided
